Lone Mountain soars to 11,166 feet hosting American biggest ski resort, Big Sky Ski Resort. You are able to ski off every side of the mountain, with over 5,000 skiable acres. Choose from double black diamonds, like the Big Couloir (beacon required), or effortless runs off the Swifty chairlift; Big Sky offers something for everyone! If groomed trails aren't your cup of tea, backcountry skiing is accessible throughout the area as well.

If staying on flat ground is more your speed, Big Sky offers some of the best cross country skiing in the lower 48. Lone Mountain Ranch offers over 50 miles of professionally groomed scenic and diverse trails for both classic and skate skiing.

Snow Shoeing

With many miles of trails in Big Sky, winter time is a special time to see them. Trek through the snow and experience the beauty of the backcountry in the winter. You can rent some gear and explore at your own pace, or travel with a guide. Snowshoe rentals are available, as well as trail information at any of the outdoor shops in Big Sky Town Center or the Mountain Village.


Ice Skating

Big Sky Town Center has got it all, including a full service ice rink! Big Sky Skating and Hockey Association  (BSSHA) is a non-profit organization in Big Sky, MT dedicated to bringing hockey, ice skating and programs to the Big Sky community. The Big Sky Ice Rink is located outdoors in front of Center Stage in Town Center Park . Don’t worry; if you need to rent some skates, Big Sky has you covered with rentals right at the rink.


Ousel Falls Park Trail

The extremely striking Ousel Falls Park Trail is a great wintertime hike for the whole family. It is easily accessible for all ages and abilities. During the winter months Ousel Falls freezes into a beautiful frozen waterfall. The best part is Ousel Falls Park Trailhead is just minutes from Big Sky Town Center.
